“Sailor’s Snug Harbor” (work in progress) by P.E. Tottenham

Well, I’m off the dredge
Now for good
As Dad said someday
I would
Be a tenant of
Sailor’s Snug Harbor
Went off on the coastal whip
Now safe into
Sailor’s Snug Harbor
Well, true, the bends was
Worse than the dredge
But now I’m sticking to the edge
In a tug
In this lovely ancient mouth
No longer bitter for your
Mythical South
Antebellum anasthesia
Blows rich through the arbor
And I’m counting down days in the
Sailor’s Snug Harbor…
